The RCMP national security investigation team is now part of a probe looking into what caused a pipeline to rupture and catch fire west of Edmonton earlier this week. According to Alberta’s minister of forestry and parks.
On Tuesday, a wildfire was sparked following a natural gas pipeline that ruptured the line about 40 kilometres northwest of Edson. The fire caused by the incident has since been deemed under control.
According to Forestry and Parks Minister Todd Loewen, “We have no indication of any kind of cause on that fire yet; the investigation is happening,” the minister stated at a wildfire-related news conference Thursday morning. “The national security investigation team of the RCMP are investigating the cause.
Initial reports had shown no signs of foul play, however since the cause is unknown, the investigation is standard practice according to the minister.
As per an RCMP statement, “The investigation shows that there is nothing to suggest that this was a national security incident.”
The investigation into what caused the pipeline explosion could take months , and even years according to representatives.
