The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is investigating after a man who evaded police fell through the North Saskatchewan River and has yet to be located.
The suspect headed west toward the Old Timers Cabin on Scona Road.
A short time later, the man was witnessed heading toward the south bank of the North Saskatchewan River, just east of the Walterdale Bridge.
Responding officers continued to provide the man with verbal direction to stop, but the man thenĀ jumped from the bank onto the river ice and drifted away from shore. He was pulled under the water moments later and has not been located.
Air1 and various other police resources on the ground immediately began searching the vicinity with the assistance of Edmonton Fire Rescue Services. Search efforts to locate the man resumed again at daylight, and have continued.
Investigators are still working to confirm the unknown mans identity.
