The Bent Arrow Traditional Healing Society held an announcement made by the Government of Alberta’s Minister of Children and Family Services Searle Turton in regards to additional funding for Family Resource Networks to support families across the province.
Budget 2024 increases the amount of funding for family resource networks by 6.6 million over a two year period, making the total budget of 66.7 Million dollars to help families access free services and workshops for young parents.
Minister Turton says it’s amazing to announce that anytime there is significant investments towards programs that have tangible results towards helping young Indigenous families, along with seeing the role out of the programs throughout the province when helping families.
Turton speaks on how the funding will be spread throughout the next two years, and mentions there are many different family needs to be met across the province, with clear ask for additional resources for Indigenous families.
Shirley West, Family Resource Network supervisor from the Bent Arrow Traditional Healing Society says she’s very happy and grateful, and adds that the funding will have a huge impact to provide more programs and services and for families to learn more about the culture.
