The Sovereign Nation of Treaty No. 8 in Alberta have implemented a new law, that suspends any and all forms of Government Authority over First Nations Children.
The new law called ‘The Nehiyaw and Dene Nations of Treaty No. 8 Adoption and Private Guardianship Law ensures the protection over the Children that reside with the Nation.
Windspeaker Radio Network spoke with Grand Chief of Treaty 8 Arthur Noskey on how the law got established.
Noskey adds that it was encouraging to see many in the crowd that wore t-shirts that read “Bring our Children Home” and adds that many in the crowd where those impacted by being removed from their homes by the Child Welfare system.
Noskey speaks on the meaning behind the sign that was displayed that read “Our Children aren’t for sale”, adding that this has to stop in Treaty 8.
