Trade winds are once again beginning to blow today ahead of the NHL trade deadline this Friday .
There was lots of waiver activity throughout the NHL and the Edmonton Oilers announced just today that Sam Gagner has been placed on waivers, which indicates that the Oilers could be very close to a big move.
Gagner, one of the Oilers more productive in the bottom six with five goals and 10 points across 27 games this season, however head coach Kris Knoblaugh has struggled to find a solid home within the oil lineups. The 5′ 11″ Centre was drafted and developed by the Edmonton Oilers 6th overall in the 2007 NHL entry draft and recently in his third tour in a blue and orange uniform.
Last offseason, Gagner underwent hip surgery and initially joined the Oilers on a professional tryout. It included a short run in the American Hockey League with the Bakersfield Condors, before signing an NHL contract.
Gagner is a pending unrestricted free agent carrying a $775,000 cap hit.
