Treaty Six First Nation Chiefs and Alberta Premier Danielle Smith met to renew and reaffirm their relationship to collaborate in discussions on priority areas within the nations.
During the meeting, Alberta’s government and the Confederacy of Treaty Six First Nations reaffirmed their commitment to collaborate in the spirit of respect and partnership. The areas include topics of health care, procurement, economic advancements and utility corridors.
Windspeaker Radio Network spoke with Grand Chief Cody Thomas of Treaty Six First Nation as he calls the gathering a historic event to bring solutions to the table from an Indigenous lens point of view.
Grand Chief Thomas adds that the tables to address the key issues will see representatives from each nation in Treaty Six involved within the discussions such as water, drought, food sovereignty. along with sharing cultural teachings from First Nations.
Grand Chief Thomas says the meaningful takeaway is to have the tables to get results and to increase standard of living, and to have Indigenous people to be a part of the conversations going forward.
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith says that First Nations people play a pivotal role in every aspect in terms of economic and socially, adding one hundred percent commitment working towards equality and prosperity for all.
