The families of two Indigenous women who went missing in the 1970’s got more closure.
On July 30th, 1975, the body of 24-year-old Louise Laderoute from the Papaschase First Nation was pulled from the North Saskatchewan River. One year later, police found the body of 30-year-old Irene Jacknife who was reported missing in Drayton Valley.
These two files were the first to be taken over by Project Match, a collaboration between EPS and national organizations to review unidentified human remains.
Project Match is supported by Institute for the Advancement of Aboriginal Women and the City of Edmonton’s Indigenous Relations Office. EPS will tackle the remaining 14 unsolved unidentified human remains on file.
Laderoute and Jacknife were honored on Friday in Edmonton.
