On Friday, February 23rd the weight limit on the Fort Chipewyan winter road will decrease to 5,000kg due to the warm conditions.
At this time, only light passenger vehicles will be allowed to travel on the road on the 23rd from 9am-9pm. The RMWB says drivers should only use the winter road for ‘essential travel’.
Any vehicle heavier than 5,000 kg will not be allowed to use the winter road between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. on Friday. This daytime load restriction will end when colder temperatures return, and the winter road load limit is expected to increase to 45,000 kg again on Saturday.
The road is expected to have rough conditions and drivers should exercise caution if they see icy surfaces.
