Edmonton Police is seeking the public’s help identifying a suspect after objects were thrown at vehicles travelling on Whitemud Drive On Saturday afternoon.
At approximately 12:35 p.m., EPS responded to the area of 53 Avenue and Whitemud Drive for a report of an object thrown at a vehicle. It was reported to police that a male standing on the overpass at 53 Avenue had thrown a concrete slab into westbound traffic on the Whitemud, striking a grey Subaru Outback on the passenger side of the windshield. The male suspect then walked away from the scene, heading eastbound on 53 Avenue. An adult male passenger in the Subaru suffered minor injuries but did not require treatment by EMS. The suspect was not located.
At approximately 1:40 p.m. the same day, Southwest officers responded to a similar event in the area of 99 Street and Whitemud Drive. It was reported to police that a male standing on the west side of the overpass at 99 Street was throwing rocks into eastbound traffic on the Whitemud and struck the roof of a white Buick Enclave. The item that struck the vehicle was not located and the driver of the Enclave did not report any injuries. The suspect was not located.
In both instances, the suspect was described as a male, approximately 5’8” to 5’9” tall with an average build who was wearing a black hoody with the hood up. In the second incident, the male was also reportedly wearing a black backpack.
Police continue to actively investigate whether both incidents are related and are asking anyone who witnessed objects being thrown off overpasses yesterday to please come forward. Likewise, anyone in the area of either incident with dash cameras that were active at the time are also asked to contact the EPS.
