The Provincial Government granted additional funding towards the Flying Canoe Festival in the city of Edmonton, with the amount granted set at $25,000, making the grand total of contribution from the Provincial Government $75,000 through the Community Initiatives Program (CIP) grant.
Tanya Fir, Minister of Arts, Culture, and status of women spoke with Windspeaker Radio Network about the funding contribution towards the Flying Canoe event.
Minister Fir says that this years event will see over one-hundred thousand people attending this years Flying Canoe Festival, with attendance numbers increasing each year within the city of Edmonton.
Fir adds that along with helping to fund the festival, the Flying Canoe is a testament towards Reconciliation by showcasing Indigenous culture, as well as having a unifying aspect as well.
