The World’s Longest Hockey Game finished late Sunday night at Saikers Acres, raising close to $400,000 to help sick kids in need.
The tournament usually focuses on adult players but this was the second time in the games history they decided to use youth players. More than 40 kids took part in the yearly game playing for 72 consecutive hours.
Brent Saik tragically lost his father to cancer in 1994 and decided to start these games in honour of him. Since then, the game has raised more than $7.4 million dollars.
Saik spoke to Windspeaker Media about seeing kids aged 10-16 raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for a great cause.
The game this year kicked off on Thursday, January 25th with many taking in the opening ceremonies. Among those who attended was Wendy Beauchesne, CEO of the Alberta Cancer Foundation. She spoke to Windspeaker Media and gave her thoughts on the games and the youth involved.
Saik expressed his excitement for the future mentioning there will the Worlds Longest Baseball game later in the summer alongside the 2025 Hockey Game. Anyone looking to show their support to the cause can visit their website.
