A remote town in northwest Alberta could be shifting to geothermal energy, the first community in the country to make this change.
Rainbow Lake was identified as a place where they have the potential for power generation and other downstream activity that geothermal allows. The community has partnered with E2E Energy Solutions for the project.
The goal is to have the town powered and heated by geothermal renewable energy sources by 2028, the project would be completed in three phases.
The community believes the transition to geothermal energy will attract new jobs while stabilizing the economy.
