The Alberta Government is making changes to Cannabis legislation in 2024.
It’s modifying areas of it’s Cannabis legislation in order to keep up with its growth in the province.
As of January 31st, 2024 the following adjustments will be made to the Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Regulation.
Alberta will see trade shows and festivals having the ability to operate temporary sales at their event locations. Retailers will now be able to keep their products in locked display cases when the store is closed as opposed to moving products to a secure storage room when business hours close.
Restrictions have also been removed on sales and transfers between cannabis retailers and to further allow Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis to establish resale markup limits.
All restrictions around consumption and prohibiting access for youth will remain the same. These regulation updates only change how and where retailers can operate.
The new changes are aimed at reducing barriers and costs for legal cannabis retailers to better combat the illegal market by increasing the competitive advantage of legal retailers.
In the past year, other modifications to legislation has included giving retailers the option of opening their businesses at 9 a.m. along with reducing listing fees for licensed producers and shipping fees for retailers.
