A local non-profit organization is doing its part to allow Edmonton’s less fortunate families to have a Merry Christmas.
This week, the Mustard Seed is hosting its 8th annual Family Gift Centre, which sells $2 toys for parents and guardians facing poverty or homelessness for their children for Christmas.
Donations of new and unused toys being accepted at the Mustard Seed Community Support Centre at 10568 114 St. NW from Monday to Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. People can also donate monetarily online at theseed.ca/giftcentre
This year, you can also choose to shop from an AMAZON list. Toys will be sent directly to the Mustard Seed Support Centre.
“Many families in the Edmonton area live below the poverty line, and the Family Gift Centre exists to alleviate the added pressure over the holidays, ensuring everyone has something special under the tree, the stories of impact are countless. It’s in the little things, like being able to tell your child you picked a gift especially for them that brings so much value to Christmas, and it is why we continue to provide this opportunity for those in need”
The event targets families who do not qualify for other Christmas programs such as the Christmas Bureau or Santa’s Anonymous.
Last year, the Mustard Seed provided 700 children with Christmas presents.
