After being delayed by a year due to weather and supply chain issues, the expansion of Anthony Henday Drive between Calgary Trail and Whitemud Drive is now completed on budget, adding a third road lane to cut down traffic and travel times.
Travel times between Calgary Trail and Whitemud Drive are expected to be cut down from 20 minutes to 10 minutes, as the road is now able to accommodate up to 120,000 vehicles per day, up from its previous ability of 40,000 vehicles per day.
The announcement also includes the bridge over the North Saskatchewan River, as all eastbound and westbound lanes are fully open.
The speed limit on the bridge will be 80km/h until spring as crews wrap up some work in the area.
