A Commemorative Ceremony honoring Louis Riel was held inside the Alberta Legislature Building in the midst of the province wide Métis week festival celebrations.
Métis citizens gathered to pay tribute to the life and work of Louis Riel and to honor the distinct culture and heritage of the Métis people in Alberta.
Windspeaker Radio Network spoke with Madame President of the Métis Nation of Alberta Andrea Sandmaier. She said that many of the Métis citizens where very happy to be inside the rotunda within the Alberta Legislature.

The commemorative ceremony also witnessed the Otipemisiwak Métis Government cabinet in full presence for the first time ever since the self-government was sworn in.
Sandmaier says it was a very proud moment.

Throughout the ceremony, many youth from the Prince Charles Fiddlers performed in front of many that attended the event, as Sandmaier said the future is exciting for Métis youth.
