On November 8, the City of Grande Prairie will be hosting their Indigenous Veterans Day at the Veterans Memorial Gardens and Interpretive Centre.
CFWE spoke with Renee Charbonneau, executive director for the Canadian Motorcycle tourism association about what people can expect at the Indigenous Veterans Day Ceremony within the City of Grande Prairie, along with the founder of the Aboriginal Indigenous Veterans Day Randi Gage will be attending the ceremony.
Charbonneau says that there will also be a dedication and unveiling of their Indigenous War Memorial during the ceremony that will also see a Metis Fiddler, Traditional drumming, singers and dancers of various Indigenous cultures.
The community of Grande Prairie thought Indigenous Veterans Day was divisive at first, however with the day honoring Indigenous Veterans several days before Remembrance Day, Charbonneau goes on to say that both ceremonies is a mash up of military traditions and Indigenous warrior culture that meet beautifully within the ceremony.
