The City of Edmonton has released its plans and schedule when it comes to clearing snow and ice from our city’s streets. Despite having approximately $8 Million dollars less from city council than last year’s snow removal budget, they plan on making it happen within the same time frame according to a news release.
The plan is to clear main roads such as freeways , bus routes and industrial areas within a 5 day window after each snowfall.
Roughly 30 km of bike lanes and shared use paths will be cleared within 24 hours of a snow storm according to the city. This new approach will create a ring road for cyclists within the city’s core.
Residential areas and alleys can expect snow to be cleared from their neighbourhoods within 10 days of a snowfall.
The city has also released a real time GPS map which shows the location of its ploughs, including the machines bearing new names voted on by Edmontontonians including Conner Mc BLade it , Amarsleet snowhee, and the Big Leplowski.
According to the city, its snow clearing budget will increase slightly over the next 3 years.
