Commuters were delayed in North Central Edmonton this morning after a high impact collision took place. The crash resulted in the closure of 118th Avenue in both directions.
Investigators believe the crash to have occured around 4:40 a.m. ,Tuesday, Oct. 24, when a Dodge Ram truck was eastbound on 118 Avenue, when it entered the intersection at Wayne Gretzky Drive southbound against a red light at a very high rate of speed.
At the same time, a Toyota Tacoma truck was southbound on a green light and a collision occurred.
Two occupants of the Ram and one from the Toyota were transported to hospital. Injuries were unknown,as of 8:00 A.M. , as are ages of the vehicle occupants.
Shortly before 11 a.m, Edmonton Police provided an update and said the southbound lanes of Wayne Gretzky Drive had been reopened but EPS also noted that 118th Avenue would remain closed in both directions near the crash site while a streetlight was being repaired.
MCIS is currently investigating and expects that the intersection will be closed for the next couple of hours; I will advise when the intersection is reopened.
The closure could last up to 12 hours according to Edmonton Police.
