On October 19, the Canadian Native Friendship Centre in Edmonton celebrated 61 years, with many gathering to eat, dance, and connect during the celebration.
Windspeaker Radio Network spoke with Elle Mayer, President of the Canadian Native Friendship Centre as she remembers the people who started it all 61 years ago.
Mayer says that Canada’s Native Friendship Centre’s are the country’s best kept secret, with great accountability as she adds that it’s been a wonderful thing to be a part of the team since she started back in 1967.
Mayer is proud that the Centre is community based and community driven, and staff will never turn anyone away if they are in need for help or guidance in life.
