The Alberta government announced Thursday that they are making a $2.1 million investment into home support services for seniors throughout the province.
Jason Nixon, Minister of Seniors, Community and Social Services, made the announcement and said that “this investment will ensure supports and services are available for all Albertans, so they can age safely in their communities.”
Nixon said he saw the importance of seniors staying in their communities after he had a chance to tour the province this summer and speak to senior citizens all throughout Alberta.
“I not only believe that they deserve to remain in the communities that they built, but that seniors are critical to the health of our communities as a whole,” Nixon said.
According to Nixon, this investment is part of a grander plan to invest $9 billion to build 25,000 new affordable housing units by 2031, which will include seniors lodging facilities.
“These investments will build new homes, and improve existing units of affordable housing, and deliver programs to improve access to housing, including for seniors,” Nixon added.
