Edmontonians will get the opportunity to see the brand new River Valley Park for the very first time this weekend.
The River Valley Park opens September 24 at 11 a.m.
The park connects with popular River Valley trails and includes unique features, such as charming barn bridges, an ornamental lake for non-motorized paddling activities, a large Event Centre for gatherings and weddings, trail connections, children’s playground and public washrooms.
There will be many activities for the public to enjoy including an Event Centre open house, Edmonton Public Library (EPL) story walk, nature and recreation activities, a neighbourhood showcase with Evergreen and Horse Hill community leagues and a City showcase with displays and giveaways.
Mayor Amarjeet Sohi and Councillors Paquette, Principe, Rice, Rutherford and Wright will also be in attendance.
Visitors will have an opportunity to win passes to City recreation centres and an annual family pass to the Muttart Conservatory. Food trucks will also be on-site.
Following the event, the park will be open daily from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.
The opening of this park comes at a time when the City of Edmonton is investing in the wellbeing of Edmontonians, providing opportunities for quality outdoor recreation experiences and expanding the Ribbon of Green network for biodiversity and ecological integrity.
Parks provide important, accessible opportunities for individuals to get active and connect with nature, which can improve people’s physical, emotional and mental health., according to the cities news release.
Later this year, the City will begin working on the long term plans for this park and look forward to connecting with residents and stakeholders through that process.
