The Athabasca Tribal Council (ATC) in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo is inviting many of the community members to attend their events to honor Orange Shirt Day, along with honoring the National Truth and Reconciliation Day on September 30.
Windspeaker Radio Network spoke with Elena Gould, director of Education, Culture and Language for the ATC about what many can expect at this years event in Wood Buffalo.
With the growing support from the community for Orange Shirt Day, for Karla Buffalo, CEO of ATC, it’s about seeing the growth of awareness from non-Indigenous people joining in on the message and learning the importance behind the Orange Shirt Day.
Gould says that the day should be used to reflect on Indigenous history within the community in Fort McMurray.
