The City of Edmonton has activated its extreme weather response due to poor air quality conditions. The response is scheduled to remain in effect until Sunday, September 3 at 11:59 p.m. but may be extended if poor air quality conditions persist.
Edmonton’s AQI is expected to creep up to 7+ or High Risk, starting Thursday night, due to wildfires in BC
Poor Air Quality Supports:
- Open City facilities will be available for anyone needing respite from the smoke, such as recreation centres, pools and libraries. Transit centres and LRT stations are not appropriate for respite from smoke because most of these facilities are exposed to the outside air and do not have controlled indoor climates.
- Distribution of N95 masks to social agency partners will be available as needed to provide to community members in need of protection from smoke.
