A fuel truck collided with a train in Whitecourt Friday, closing a major highway in the northern Alberta town.
The collision happened around 8:30am on Highway 43, near the junction of Highway 32. CN police and Whitecourt Fire Department were the first on scene.
No fatalities have been reported, police said.
“Though the fuel is the only hazardous material involved, fuel is volatile and explosions are still possible,” police said in the news release.
By Friday afternoon, smoke had cleared but the road closure remained in place. By 4 p.m. Hwy. 43 near Hwy. 32 was open to one-lane, alternating traffic.
The investigation into the collision continues.
