A 19- year old Wetaskiwin man is facing numerous charges after fleeing a police traffic stop , and then returning to the scene to torment the officer.
According to an RCMP news release, Wetaskiwin RCMP received several reports of speeding motorcycles in the past couple of weeks.
On July 19, three motorcycles were seen travelling south on 56 street just after midnight.
When an officer with the Wetaskiwin RCMP approached in the opposite direction in a marked police car, the lead motorcycle accelerated and fled at a high rate of speed.
Two motorcycles stopped at the traffic stop, only to return to the site to give the officer the middle finger.
RCMP were able to obtain a plate number off the motorcycle.
The driver of the motorcycle was identified as 19-year-old Wetaskiwin resident, Ethan Halliday. Halliday was located and arrested at his residence later that day and is now facing the following charges:
- Flight from Police
- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
- Drive while unauthorized
- Drive uninsured motor vehicle
He has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Aug 22, 2023 in a Wetaskiwin Provincial Court.
