Approximately seven thousand young athletes will be arriving by the bus load to compete in the 2023 Alberta Summer Games which this year are hosted by the towns of Okotoks and Diamond Valley located 40-minutes southwest of the city of Calgary.

This year’s games are special for the summer games haven’t been held since 2018 in Grande Prairie. The 2020 games where canceled due to the global COVID-19 pandemic resulting in many young athletes to miss out on the opportunity to compete in games.
The coming of the games means local business in both towns will be busy and trying to get accommodation will be tricky as all the hotels and majority of the campgrounds are full as families come to support their athletes.
Mayor Tanya Thorn of Okotoks shared how the community of Okotoks is eager and excited to not only host the games but also, show off their town to the three thousand athletes who’ll also have their families cheering them on during the four day competition.
The games to the many athletes who compete not only have the chance to represent their community but also, compete at a higher level while giving many the opportunity to become among the best in the province in their respective sport.
Sandi Kennedy Chair of the Alberta Summer Games shared in a statement to Windspeaker Media, “Young athletes are empowered by viewing athletes achieving their goals, dreams and desire to achieve similar achievements.” Kennedy continued, “Striving and being able to try their best being part of a terrific experience of achievement”.
Town of Diamond Valley will be hosting the BMX and Mountain Biking events while the Town of Okotoks will be hosting the rest.
