City Council is asking Grande Prairie residents to say goodbye to the Leisure Centre prior to it’s demolition this summer.
People can submit stories, pictures and share their favorite memories to the city’s engagement website from now until September 8th.
First built in 1976, it housed a pool, the Johnny MacDonald Arena and a fitness centre. The arena later became a soccer field.
The Leisure Centre was a host venue for various sports during the 1995 Canada Games, hosted soccer during the 2010 Arctic Winter Games, and was the home of the games office during the 2018 Alberta Summer Games.
City council decided in 2021 that it would be torn down along with the old Comp. high school because of structural issues.
