The East Prairie Metis Settlement will get $9 million from the Indigenous Housing Capital Program to rebuild homes destroyed from wildfires.
Seniors, community and Social Services Minister Jason Nixon spoke to media today saying 14 homes were completely destroyed in the fires and many others damaged. Nixon provided more information on this one time payment.
Scott Sinclair, the MLA for Lesser Slave Lake said he’s seen many emergencies in his region and is grateful for the provinces support in re-building these communities.
Rick Wilson, the Indigenous Relations Minister for the Province says these settlements are incredibly important for the culture of Indigenous and Metis people.
The one time payment will be added to the $46M already provided to thousands of wildfire evacuees across Alberta.
