People in and around Fort Chipewyan may see plumes of smoke over the next few days.
Alberta Wildfire says the plume is from some growth on the north-east flank of the Rocky River Fire, but it does not pose a threat to the hamlet.
The fire no longer poses a threat to the community of Fort Chipewyan, Allison Bay, Dog Head, or the Fort Chipewyan airport.
Anyone with smoke related health concerns should visit Alberta Health Services or call 811 for health advice from Alberta Health Link.
The Rocky River Fire is currently classified as “being held” and remains just over 60,000 hectares in size.
The fire hazard for the Fort McMurray Forest Area is listed as Moderate. Firefighters are urging everyone to continue to use caution as a wildfire will ignite easily and spread quickly.
There remains a fire restriction in the RMWB, which means fireworks, as well as fires on public lands, including backcountry and random camping areas are prohibited.
You are allowed campfires on private lands, provincial campgrounds, and backyard fires within the RMWB.
If you see fire or smoke in Alberta’s backcountry this Canada Day long weekend, call 310-FIRE
