Grade eleven student raises awareness with Indigenous artwork

A grade 11 artist from Lac La Biche utilizes her artistic skills to showcase her Indigenous culture and Metis and Cree heritage to help raise awareness about the moose hide campaign and the MMIW (Missing murdered Indigenous Women) movement.

Windspeaker Radio Network spoke with Riley Gladue about her artwork, which can now be seen inside the foyer of J.A Williams High School in Lac La Biche.

The art piece Gladue calls ‘Moose Lady’ was completed by the young artist in 37 hours in total, within the span of five school days.

Gladue says that she has received an overwhelming support from her peers and teachers, which inspires her to continue her work in creating art.

Gladue goes on to say that she would love to continue her work in art after she graduates high school, and to continue to create art that she hopes will be seen by many.
