June 21st marks National Indigenous People’s Day, and Canadians celebrated all day.
For generations, many Indigenous groups and communities have celebrated their culture and heritage on June 21 or around that time of year because of the significance of the summer solstice as the longest day of the year.
In the town of Devon, the community hosted a pipe ceremony and gathering in Voyageur Park. Residents listened to stories and singing from local Elders in the area.
Mitch Wincentaylo is a Treaty Partner with the community and says he always enjoys seeing the town come together to learn or experience Indigenous culture.

Carmen Brown is the founder of Indigenous Camrose and spearheaded the event and hopes to see this energy year round in her community.
