The annual Canada Day Parade will not be happening this year.
On Tuesday morning, the RMWB announced that several factors have led to the cancellation of the parade including staff and community volunteers assisting with the Fort Chipewyan wildfire evacuation. Staff are typically involved in the parade route, communication, safety, and other logistics within the parade.
Although the parade is cancelled, many other community events will be occurring on July 1st.
MacDonald Island Park will be hosting a free community concert, as well as having fireworks on June 30th. No tickets are required to attend and gates open at 6 p.m.
There will also be many different family events held at MacDonald Island Park on July 1st, from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. This will include face painting, an obstacle course, bouncy castles, as well as a magic show.
You can find the full list of events at macdonaldisland.ca/canada-day
On July 1st, the Fort McMurray Heritage Society will be offering free admission to Heritage Village and Heritage Shipyard.
