An Edmonton Police Service officer was struck by a vehicle yesterday afternoon following a traffic stop in southeast Edmonton.
Shortly after 4 p.m. on Monday, June 12, 2023, officers from Traffic Enforcement Section (TES) were conducting traffic enforcement in the area of Mill Woods Road and 36B Avenue when they observed a Hyundai Sonata speeding. Officers conducted a traffic stop and had a brief interaction with the driver before that driver subsequently put the vehicle in reverse, striking one of the officers. The officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated and transported to hospital by paramedics for treatment.
Police arrested the 15-year-old female driver and 19-year-old female passenger on scene. The driver was transported to hospital by paramedics as a precaution. Investigators have since determined that the vehicle was stolen, and the driver did not have a valid driver’s license.
Charges are pending against the driver and passenger.
