Several cabins in an Indigenous community were believed to have been burned down by a 16,000 hectare wildfire in northern Alberta.
Mikisew Cree First Nation chief Billy Joe Tuccaro shared the news after taking an aerial tour of the community.
The cabins are part of the Devil’s Gate reserve, which is part of the Mikisew Cree Nation in Alberta’s northeast corner.
Mikisew Cree First Nation, Fort Chipewyan Métis Nation and Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation were evacuated over Tuesday night and Wednesday.
About 60 Alberta wildfires are also deployed in the area.
