The youth was later found safe in Florida, ALERT said in a news release Thursday, and there is no reason to believe the teacher was involved in her disappearance.
Brennan Gorman, 27, has been charged with child luring, making, transmitting, and possessing child pornography.
He is also facing pending additional child luring and child pornography charges as a result of alleged online interactions with the girl in Florida.
Police said Gorman most recently worked as a teacher at Balwin Junior High School, where he taught children with autism spectrum disorder. He previously worked at Belmead School in 2022 and Good Shepherd Elementary School in 2020.
He was also previously employed at a number of daycares: Little Learners Fort Road in 2021, Little Learners St. Albert in 2021, Klarvatten Plaza Daycare in Edmonton between 2019 and 2020, Richard Secord Out of School Care in Edmonton between 2018 and 2019, and Discoveryland Childcare and OSC in Edmonton in 2018.
Police said Edmonton Public Schools is cooperating with the investigation as well as the daycare facilities.
In a statement, Edmonton Public Schools said Gorman is no longer employed with the division.
Police believe there are additional complainants in the Edmonton area and are asking anyone with information to contact the Edmonton police non-emergency line at 780-423-4567, their local RCMP detachment, or anonymously online at Cybertip.ca.
Gorman has been released from custody on a number of conditions, including not being able to maintain employment that would place him in the position of trust or authority over a youth, and not to attend any schools, and is scheduled to appear in court on June 5.
