The Canada-Wide Science Fair and STEM Expo held their 61st annual event at the Edmonton Convention Centre from May 14-19 where students from all over Canada shared their talents and knowledge with one another.
Ratidzayi Takawira-Nyenya, a biologist from the Muttart Conservatory, had a table set up where she let students touch and learn about various plants and animal artifacts.
She spoke with Windspeaker Radio Network about her time at the fair, saying that “this has been an awesome conference for young students to showcase their science knowledge.”
“We’ve seen posters from various students from almost everywhere in Canada, almost all the provinces are represented here,” she added.
Takawira-Nyenya says the event holds special value to her because she’s able to show her expertise to the younger generations.
“It means so much to me to see the children show their ‘wow’ moments. It was amazing to be here, and contribute to the experiences the students have been having,” she said.
Mathew Dwyer, an air weapons technician at CFB Cold Lake, was also at the fair representing the RCAF and showing keen students’ examples of military artifacts and sharing stories.
“The children are very enthusiastic about this stuff, it’s great. It adds energy to us, it keeps us going,” Dwyer said.
The annual fair was held in Fredericton last year virtually, and next year’s fair is scheduled for May 11-17 2024 at Carleton University in Ottawa.
