Regional Emergency Services (RES) will begin controlled burns this week as part of the Municipality’s wildfire mitigation strategy. When this happens, smoke and controlled fire may be visible, which is normal, and not a cause for concern.
Controlled burns are led by trained staff from RES and only happen when conditions are safe to do so.
These controlled burns are carried out each spring to remove dead and dry surface fuels that collect over the winter months. Burn abatement is an important step in helping to reduce wildfire risk in the region.
The controlled burns are happening in these areas:
- Parsons Creek
- Wood Buffalo
- Thickwood
Signs will be placed in nearby areas to remind residents of planned burns. Anyone living in close proximity should keep their windows closed to keep smoke out of their homes.
Anyone with questions or concerns should contact Pulse online or call 780-743-7000.
