The Native Women’s Association of Canada (NWAC) announced the launch of a campaign called “Change the Bill”, a call to action that aims to promote reconciliation through art.
The artwork that would be displayed onto the banknote, will showcase Indigenous women of their contributions and talents from across Canada, with the opportunity to purchase the artwork for 20 dollars, with 100 percent of the proceeds going towards the artist.
Windspeaker Radio Network spoke with NWAC CEO Lynne Groulx about how origins of the campaign, saying it’s a beautiful way to showcase reconciliation through art.
Groulx highlights the contributions and talents of three of the possible women that could be the new face of the 20 dollar banknote that include Josephine Mandamin. Margaret Pictou, and Cindy Blackstock.
With over 31 thousand Canadians that signed the petition, and the goal of 35,000 signatures, Groulx says that this is a way for Canadians to make a change through reconciliation.
