The Audible Indigenous Writers’ Circle is returning for a third year for emerging First Nations, Métis, and Inuit writers in Canada looking to elevate their storytelling.
The six-month mentorship and workshop program will launch in June and provide 24 Indigenous writers with the opportunity to work and learn alongside eight professional industry mentors.
First launched in 2021, the Writers’ Circle is designed to support the next wave of emerging Indigenous writers in Canada by leveraging Audible’s resources and community connections to provide mentorship and learning opportunities that help program participants tell their stories.
This year’s mentors include Richard Van Camp, January Rogers, Reneltta Arluk, Jessica Johns, Joshua Whitehead, Alicia Elliott, and Warren Cariou.
The Audible Indigenous Writers’ Circle is a free program available to Indigenous writers over the age of 18 who can provide samples of their literary work. Applicants will be assessed by a panel of Indigenous literary artists who will consider the strength of the artistic intention of each sample of work and the potential benefits of the Writers’ Circle to the development of the applicant’s practice.
Each selected emerging writer is eligible for a $1,500 bursary to support their participation.
Applicants must self-identify as First Nations, Inuit, and/or METIS, and submit a short personal statement and sample of prior work.
The application period for this year will end on Apr. 14, 2023.
