Alberta is adding an extra $12.4 million this year to create more apprenticeship seats in response to the high demand.
The 12 million is on top of the $15 million over three years announced earlier which added more than 1,000 extra apprenticeship spaces.
Advanced Education Minister Rajan Sawhney says the money will create upwards of 2,000 new apprenticeship positions.
According to Sawhney there are more than 50,000 registered apprentices in Alberta indicating a 19% jump from last year. She goes on to say the demand for skilled trades continues to rise year after year.
Alberta is currently experiencing significant demand in construction trades and the automotive industry.
