Police in a rural Alberta community are investigating after an apparent arson fire displaced a family of seven.Fire, police and ambulance crews responded early Saturday morning to a blaze at a home in Athabasca, which damaged a home and destroyed a garage, a camper and an SUV.
The family of seven, the youngest of whom is one, all escaped the fire uninjured. The fire was reported at 2:35 a.m.
A photo of the blaze supplied by RCMP shows a fully engulfed garage with the words “go home” scrawled on the door in red spray paint.
RCMP Cpl. Gina Slaney said investigators have deemed the fire suspicious and are appealing for tips.
She said the graffiti “is an aspect of the investigation.
“We still don’t know who’s responsible and we don’t know what the motivation is behind it, but it is part of the investigation.”
