The City of Edmonton is re-locating its emergency reception centre.
Last week, the Yellowknife evacuation order was lifted, thus resulting in a change of location for the evacuees seeking shelter in the Edmonton area.
The Edmonton Expo Centre reception centre has now been moved to the Clareview Community Recreation Centre as of Monday at 9 a.m.
“With the evacuation order lifted for Yellowknife, fewer displaced individuals remain in Edmonton and there has been a reduced demand for services,” according to the city’s news release.
The Lower Slave evacuees can now seek shelter at the Clareview Recration Centre.
Although overnight lodging will not be provided, evacuees will still have full access to the city owned recreation facilities, amenitiesas well as Edmonton Transit Services.
Animal Care and Control is not available, but pet supplies are still available and can be picked up at the centre.
As of Aug 8, 2023, approximately 7,500 evacuees from the N.W.T have registered in Edmonton.
