Wood Buffalo RCMP have arrested three individuals following an armed home invasion on the Chipewyan Prairie First Nation and a vehicle pursuit.
On October 26, at approximately 10:41 p.m., three acquaintances forced their way into a residence armed with a firearm, demanded a gift card, and stole a laptop before fleeing in a red Mitsubishi Lancer.
Police located the suspect vehicle shortly after, but it fled at a high rate of speed. Out of concern for public safety, a pursuit was not initiated. At approximately 12:20 a.m. on Oct. 27, RCMP successfully stopped the vehicle on Highway 881 and arrested all three occupants without incident.
Officers recovered the stolen laptop, a sawed-off shotgun, three replica firearms, bear spray, a knife, and a baton.
All three suspects were held for a Judicial Interim release hearing and remain in custody, scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray.
Wood Buffalo RCMP have charged a 17-Year-Old Youth & a 15-Year-Old Youth, both from Chipewyan Prairie First Nation.
27 year old Cody Benoit-Cardinal of Beaver Lake is also facing charges. He is set to appear next in the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray on Oct. 28.
