Wolf Creek Public Schools have introduced new “Culture Camps” which will provide Indigenous students with hands-on and immersive experience at school.
The camps will be taught alongside WCPS Elders and Knowledge Keepers, with support from the Indigenous Education and Reconciliation team with the school division. With the camps, they hope to bridge youth to traditional teachings and empower cultural identity.
Students can learn topics like the Metis history, traditional crafts and games, tipi teachings, medicine wheel teachings, and traditional dance.
The WCPS Indigenous Education and Reconciliation team say they plan to continue to implement Culture Camps, as well as other versions of cultural teachings called “Mini Camps” throughout the Division.
