The Canadian Finals Rodeo returns next month for Canadian Finals Rodeo Week, running October 5-11.
Events will take place at Rogers Place, throughout the Ice District, and at the Edmonton Expo Centre. Organizers expect roughly 43,000 spectators to attend the four days of competition.
This will mark the third consecutive year the CFR has been held in Edmonton after previously spending six seasons in Red Deer.
The competition lineup includes bull riding, bareback riding, steer riding, saddle bronc, steer wrestling, tie-down roping, breakaway roping, team roping, and barrel racing.
Organizers say roughly 130 truckloads of dirt will be trucked into Rogers Place.
Running in parallel at the Edmonton Expo Centre is the Canadian Country Expo. It is projected to draw more than 900 competitors and 1,200 animals across three arenas, plus over 100 vendors selling western lifestyle goods and services. The expo will offer trade-show exhibits, live music, additional rodeo action, and free family programming focused on western culture and entertainment.
Contests at the Expo Centre include the Million Dollar Breakaway (an all-women breakaway roping competition), the Canadian Youth Rodeo Championships (158 young athletes competing for $50,000 in prizes), the Heritage Ranch Rodeo (events rooted in traditional ranch work), and the new BYOB Bull Battle, in which top Canadian riders will compete on their own bulls for a $25,000 purse.
