The Roxy Theatre in Edmonton is set to celebrate its 52nd season and will do so with a new production and art exhibit.
Indigenous Cree artist Jason Carter is leading a new immersive art experience celebrating Canada in stone and canvas called Coast to Coast to Coast.
Carter is an Indigenous sculptor, painter, and public artist from the Little Red River Cree Nation.
Growing up in Edmonton, he was the only Alberta artist to have his own solo show at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics and has illustrated 5 children’s books.
His latest work, Coast to Coast to Coast, is what he calls a love letter to Canada and to the incredible variety of landscapes that shape it.
Carter wanted the exhibition to feel expansive – to move from the Atlantic to the Pacific to the Arctic, while also celebrating everything that connects them.
He hopes people walk through the exhibition and recognize places they know, discover places they don’t, and maybe see the Canadian landscape a little differently.
Carter also designed the set for the feature production at the Roxy called Oh, Anne!
He joined Darrell to talk about his newest exhibit, Oh, Anne! and the hopes he has for people viewing both productions.
