The Lac La Biche Museum will host a week of free activities from September 19 to 26 for Alberta Culture Days. This event invites both residents and visitors to engage in creating, learning, and experiencing the diverse cultures and traditions of the Lac La Biche region.
The celebration begins on Saturday, September 19, with two hands-on workshops. At 10 a.m., Irina Kalina will lead a Ukrainian Cloth Doll Workshop for participants aged six and older. At noon, Danielle Patenaude of Métis Matriarch Ltd. will conduct a Ribbon Skirt Making Workshop for participants aged 16 and older.
The celebration continues during regular museum hours from Sept. 22 to 26 with a Cultural Art Walk featuring three exhibitions.
Local photographer Donna Feledichuk will be featured in “See the Forest Differently,” an exhibition showcasing her award-winning wildlife photography. This collection highlights the wildlife found within the forest and encourages visitors to pay closer attention to the animals, their relationships, and fleeting moments that often go unnoticed.
Another exhibition, “Indigenous Footwear: Reflections of Culture in Wearable Art,” curated by Jennifer Mueller, explores Indigenous footwear from across Canada. This exhibition includes moccasins, boots, and kamiks, examining how the environment, available materials, regional traditions, and cultural exchange have influenced the construction and decoration of footwear. It features various techniques and materials, such as hide, fur, quillwork, embroidery, and beadwork.
The Art Walk will also showcase work created by local children, allowing young artists to express their perspectives on culture, heritage, and their community.
The week’s main celebration will take place on Saturday, September 26, beginning with opening ceremonies from 1 to 1:30 p.m. on Main Street in Lac La Biche.
