Fort McMurray RCMP have laid charges after theft of copper tubing.
According to Mounties, on Janurary 13, Wood Buffalo RCMP responded to a complaint of theft of copper tubing from a local business in the Gregoire area of Fort McMurray. Sometime during the early evening hours of Jan. 12, 2025, unknown persons entered the business and stole copper tubing, the value of which was determined to be over $50,000.
RCMP obtained the video surveillance from the business. The surveillance captured two unknown suspects, wearing balaclavas, commit the theft and leave the area in a blue Chevrolet Cruze.
Further investigation led Wood Buffalo RCMP to identify two separate locations in Fort McMurray associated to the theft. On Jan. 17, 2025, with the assistance of the Wood Buffalo RCMP Drug Section, a Judicially Authorized search warrant was obtained for these locations, one on Arabian Drive in the Prairie Creek area and the other on Demers Drive in Downtown.
As a result of the search warrant, the copper tubing was recovered and RCMP arrested one suspect without incident.
28 year old John Carr of Fort McMurray, is facing charges including Theft over $5,000.00 and Possession of a break-in instrument
Carr has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray on February 12.
