It was only fitting to see the ‘battle of Canada’ come to a dramatic game 7 finish, the Oilers came out victorious with a 3-2 victory.
Edmonton battled adversity in the series, down 3-2, the Oil turned the tables with a decisive game 6 victory & finished the series in seven.
Head Coach Kris Knoblauch said the Oilers, who didn’t hold a lead in the series until it was over, have learned through adversity not just through the regular season but in these playoffs. Leon Draisaitl, who has 24 points in 12 games this playoffs spoke to media following the victory and discussed their resilience, even if it got dicey at the end.
One of the bigger stories of the series was the Oilers decision to bench starter Stuart Skinner for two games in favor of Calvin Pickard. Skinner got the nod in game 6 and 7 and was lights out for the Oilers when they needed him most.
Skinner spoke to the media postgame about his personal journey throughout the playoffs this year.
The Oilers will look to advance to the Stanley Cup Final for the first time since 2006 with a WCF showdown with the Dallas Stars. Game 1 will be Thursday night.
